Questions Frequently Asked of Caitlin Anderson Photography
What is Caitlin Anderson Photography’s primary style?
I feel like this is THE most important question you could possibly ask or determine about a potential photographer, regardless of whether you are looking for portrait, wedding, engagement, or other event photography.
Whatever you do, DON’T hire a photographer if you don’t like their editing or shooting style!
Our personal shooting style leans towards using natural available light, is a healthy combination of posed & lifestyle (in the moment, “life as it happens”) shots, and focuses on capturing you, your love story, & what’s most important to you.
Our editing style very much follows through with that. I only lightly color correct and edit, focusing on letting your natural beauty shine. You’re deeply in love - your smiles radiate and glow way more than I could ever attempt to add in Photoshop! Your photos will be true to color, meaning the colors you spent so much time and energy picking for your big day will be the same colors that are there in all of your wedding photos.
If we were to sum up our style in one sentence, we would say that it is “True to life, full of color, clean & crisp.”
Will my pictures be edited?
Continuing on from the above question, here is a summarization of our image processing.
As soon as we arrive back home from your wedding, we immediately download and make copies of all images taken, storing backups on a duplicate drive. From there we start the process of “culling” your photos. That simply means we go through and remove any photos that are no good for whatever reason - overexposed, out of focus, or maybe an unflattering angle or two.
Don’t worry! We take photos upon photos throughout your day, and we’ll never cull any important photos. Because we take hundreds, if not thousands, of photos on your big day, we will also remove any duplicates. If we take 3 photos of a certain pose for example, we’ll only keep the best and remove the other two.Color correcting is next, which just makes sure that your whites are white and your colors are true. Caitlin will then go through and hand edit any photos that need further tweaking. It’s only a light edit, but you can be sure that that personalized touch will make your photos shine!
How long after my wedding will my pictures be done?
Start to finish, we ask for 6 weeks to process your photos. As soon as they’re finished, we’ll set up a time to meet so you can see your images and design your wedding album!
What happens if the photographer gets sick?
Your wedding doesn’t get canceled if somebody gets sick, as sad or unfortunate as that would be. Our first priority is always you & your big day - we can recover afterwards! So unless we have a life threatening illness, you can count on us to be there.
What is the purpose of a Second Shooter? Will one be included when I book Caitlin Anderson Photography?
A second shooter, simply put, is just an additional photographer to help capture your wedding day. They are just as fully trained and equipped as your primary photographer, but may act in several different positions throughout the day. You might see them acting as assistant to the primary photographer, helping carry bags & lighting equipment around, switching out batteries and memory cards as needed. You may also see them helping direct people in setting up for the next photo.
Their main job though is to help photograph throughout the day, acting as a “backup” in case the very worst happens (a memory card or other piece of equipment fails). This is extremely rare, but because your day is so important - that first kiss only happens once! - we take every precaution we can to ensure that your day is captured forever from start to finish.
The majority of our wedding packages include a Second Shooter. But if you’re having a smaller wedding or elopement, or chose a more basic package, a Second is most often not needed. Of course, if it’s important to you, let us know and we can talk about what it involves to add another shooter to your chosen package.
What kind of equipment do you use? And do you have backups?
Our primary system is Canon based, and we are constantly working on upgrading and refreshing our equipment.
We always have a backup camera(s), lenses, memory cards, batteries, & flashes on hand.
All of our processing & editing is done on an iMac with Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop.
If my wedding day goes longer than expected, will you stay?
This is determined on a case by case basis, but in most cases, yes, of course!! We do have an overtime rate, and it goes into effect only after discussion and approval by yourself. You’ll receive an invoice for those additional hours after returning from your honeymoon.
What attire will you and your assistants wear?
Whatever you would like us to! Well, within reason of course. But let us know what attire you have requested for your guests, and we will follow suit. We always dress very professionally, and you can rest assured that we won’t show up in bright, flamboyant colors. This day is about YOU, and we will do everything we can to keep the spotlight focused there.
